How has marketing evolved from the days of print ads and TV commercials to the online age? As social media allows people to effortlessly connect with friends and strangers alike, it also serves as a tighter link between consumers and brands, which take advantage of the interactivity of online platforms to personify themselves, build parasocial connections to consumers and create a relatable identity for themselves. However, as more and more brands adopt this style of online marketing, how effective can it truly be for consumers? As a selection of tweets from these brands on Twitter are placed against traditional commercials on TV, the friendly and occasionally humorous nature of these posts appear to serve a more materialistic purpose.
